JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The city of Jamestown has announced they have met their sandbag goal.

The city initiated sandbagging as a precautionary measure after releases from both Pipestem Dam and Jamestown Reservoir were increased to 1,800 cfs combined.

Releases will be ramped up in the upcoming week to a combined 2,400 cfs, causing a rise of waters downstream.

For precaution, the city set a goal of 65,000 sandbags to distribute along the river banks to protect homes and property.

“The City of Jamestown would like to sincerely thank the volunteers for all the hard work and effort it took to reach our goal,” the city stated.

There will be no further need for sandbagging volunteers.
