FOREST CITY, IOWA (vcsuvikings.com) – The Valley City State volleyball team fell to Waldorf University on Friday night 26-24, 23-25, 25-18, 19-25, and 15-6.

The two North Star teams went head to head Friday night as they battle for a spot in the six-team conference tournament. With the loss, the Vikings fall to eighth place in the North Star with four conference games remaining.

The Vikings trailed the Warriors early in set one but caught up to tie at 14-14 with a bad set by the Warriors. From there, they would trade points back-and-forth with ten ties until 24-24, including three Bailey Nelson kills for Valley City State. A Viking error and Abygail Wood kill would give the Warriors set one, 26-24.

Valley City State again trailed early in set two but took their first lead at 12-11 with a Caitlyn Fischbach kill. Their largest lead of the set would come at 21-17 when the Warriors went on a 3-1 run to bring the score as close as 22-20 in favor of Valley City State. Adam Longmore would call a timeout before a Warrior error and a pair of Bailey Nelson kills would secure the set for the Vikings, 25-23.

Waldorf would not give up as they took an early 16-6 lead over Valley City State in the third set. The Vikings would go on a 5-0 run including a Kallene Klever service ace and Katie Juarez kill. After a Warrior timeout, Waldorf would finish strong taking the set 25-18.

After starting out tied at 5-5 in set four, three straight Bailey Nelson kills would give the Vikings a lead they wouldn’t give up for the rest of the set. The Warriors would get as close as 22-18 after three straight Viking errors. Back to back kills from Katie Juarez and a Waldorf set error would give Valley City State set four, 25-19.

The Vikings hit negatively as a team to the Warriors’ .500 in set five as Waldorf took the final set 15-6.

Valley City State falls to 5-16 overall and 1-9 in the North Star. Waldorf improves to 11-15 overall and 3-7 in the conference.

Katie Juarez led the Vikings with a career-high 19 kills while Bailey Nelson added 15 and Caitlyn Fischbach added 10.

Charlotte Huschka recorded a team-high 29 digs and two service aces while Kallene Klever and Reagan Ingstad each added 10 digs. Ingstad also added 19 assists for the Vikings and Alexa Walby tallied 27.

Waldorf was led by Savanna Cordie who recorded 14 kills, two solo blocks, and four assisted blocks. Kyra Platzek added 13 kills, 14 digs, and two service aces.

Senior libero Kelsey Sederquest recorded 26 digs Friday night while Elisabeth Tramm tallied 42 assists for the Warriors.
