JAMESTOWN, N.D. (JimmieAthletics.com) – Cade Torgerson (SO/Billings, Mont.) threw for 173 yards and a pair of touchdowns to help lead the University of Jamestown football team to a 31-10 over Briar Cliff (Iowa) University in the season finale at Taylor Stadium on Saturday.

Torgerson threw scoring passes to Marcus Giles (SO/Blaine, Minn.) and Garrett Mitchell (SO/Shakopee, Minn.) while Josiah Cage (SO/Bloomington, Minn.) and Jimmy Hatch (SR/Sacramento, Calif.) added rushing touchdowns. Sean Fenelon (SO/West Fargo, N.D.) also connected on a 21-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.

Jamestown (2-9 overall, 2-7 Great Plains Athletic Conference) defeated the Chargers (5-6, 4-5 GPAC) for the second straight year.

Cage’s one-yard run capped off a five play, 38-yard drive to give UJ a 7-0 lead in the first quarter.

Hatch found the end zone from six yards out to finish an eight play, 58-yard drive for a 14-0 lead with 6:48 before the half.

Briar Cliff’s Jesus Pena Lopez hit a 20-yard field goal as time expired in the first half to make it 14-3.

Nate Villalobos ran in from five yards out as Briar Cliff made it a one-possession game at 14-10 with 10:51 remaining in the third.

Torgerson connected with Mitchell on a 42-yard touchdown on the first play of the fourth quarter to push the lead to 21-10. Fenelon’s field goal extended the advantage to 24-10, then an 11-yard pass from Torgerson to Giles made it 31-10.

Jamestown finished with 338 yards of total offense while holding Briar Cliff to 190. It marked the first time this season the Jimmies had outgained their opponent.

Tanner Mathern (JR/Edgeley, N.D.) carried 18 times for 59 yards and Hatch added 52 yards on 12 carries. Giles caught six passes for 88 yards and Mitchell finished with two catches for 70 yards.

Darrick Jones (JR/Compton, Calif.) recorded 11 total tackles, followed by TJ Milk (JR/Pahrump, Nev.) with seven and Troy Stuard (SR/Daingerfield, Texas) with six. Aundre Purnell (SR/Garden Grove, Calif.) was credited with two pass breakups and Jordan Olson (SO/Prior Lake, Minn.) intercepted a pass.
