JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The 2019 North Dakota State Volleyball tournaments will begin this week at the Fargodome. Both the Class A and Class B tournaments run congruently on adjoining courts. The tournament returns to Fargo after a one-year hiatus.

The Class A bracket was set Saturday with the finishing of the EDC and WDA tournaments. Century, the four-time defending champions, enter as the No. 1 seed out of the West and likely the favorite to win their fifth consecutive title. The Patriots are without all-state middle hitter Lauren Ware who tore her ACL in July.

They are joined in the field by the Jamestown, Mandan and Bismarck from the west.

The East Region championship was claimed by the Davies Eagles in a three-set sweep of Sheyenne.  Shanley and Valley City make up the other two teams from the east.

Day 1 schedule:

1pm: Davies vs. Mandan

3pm: Jamestown vs. Shanley

5pm: Century vs. Valley City

7pm: Sheyenne vs. Bismarck

The Oakes Tornadoes finished runners-up to Thompson in the 2018 tournament and grabbed the No. 1 seed as the favorite to win the title in 2019. Both teams are back in the field for another year. Oakes has a first round match-up with Stanley. If both Thompson and Oakes win their opening match, we would see a state championship rematch in the semifinals.

Thompson is the No. 4 seed and will play 5th-seeded Oak Grove on Thursday.

Day 1 Schedule:

1pm: #2 Our Redeemer’s vs. Dickinson Trinity

3pm: #3 Langdon vs. Flasher

5pm: #1 Oakes vs. Stanley

7pm: #4 Thompson vs. #5 Oak Grove
