The funeral service for Mark “Boomer” Boom will be on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran with burial at Zion Getchell Cemetery, rural Valley City. There will be a time of visitation on Friday, December 6 from 5-8 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church, Valley City.

Mark Duane Boom was born May 27, 1954 in Valley City, ND to Murl and Doryce (Potter) Boom. He attended school at Valley City and Center, ND. On October 19, 1974, he married Marla Harshman in Valley City. On July 27, 1980, their son, Marshall Duane Boom was born. Mark and Marla owned Boomers Corner Keg from October 31, 1983 until Mark’s retirement, June 30, 2019.

Mark’s pride and joy are his only son, Marshall and his two grandchildren, Mercer and Korbyn. All of his free time was devoted to his grandchildren and his family. Mark cherished the family dinners on Sunday and spending time with Mercer and Korbyn after school.

He enjoyed riding motorcycles, sandblasting, woodworking, and numerous art projects from drawing his own designs to putting together intricate puzzles. He loved ZZ Top and even went to 11 of their concerts.

Mark is loved by many. He was one who built relationships that were for a lifetime.
Mark got his eagle’s wings on December 3, 2019 with Marla and Marshall by his side. Mark’s strong will got him through four battles with cancer, 68 radiation treatments, and 16 chemotherapy treatments. He was not a quitter and every time he was asked if he wanted to do treatment he would say, “Bring it on!”

He is survived by his wife, Marla; son, Marshall; daughter-in-law, Ashley; grandsons, Mercer and Korbyn; sister, Connie Pickar; father, Murl Boom; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; mother, Dory; brothers, Scott and Todd; mother-in-law, Frances Harshman; father-in-law, Melvin Harshman; and a brother-in-law, Ross Pickar.
