JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A tumultuous month involving the Frontier Village and City of Jamestown has led to Jamestown Tourism overseeing operations of the property in 2020.

On November 1st, the Frontier Village Association (FVA) voted to turn over all assets to the city of Jamestown after their request for a lease renewal was denied. The move was made transfer was made official on November 21st.

Jamestown Tourism Executive Director Searle Swedlund says the big question now; what happens next?

Swedlund says they’ve been tapped to oversee all operations of the Frontier Village in 2020 and possibly 2021. He says for them, the next step is building maintenance and inventory.

Swedlund pointed out they’ll also need to take time to analyze the financials and costs of running the attraction. He says this process will require the help of the community.

Jamestown Tourism will temporarily oversee the property, but Swedlund says that provides them an exciting opportunity to get to know their audience and who the Frontier Village should be targeting visitor wise.

Something he says they’ll be working on this summer include creating a new Visitor Center in the Frontier Village. Recently, a longtime vendor retired, opening up a space for a Visitor Center.

Swedlund says if anyone is interested in volunteering with maintenance, inventory, taking over the lease, or can provide any assistance as they transition, they’re more than welcome to contact Jamestown Tourism with questions.
