JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown made the announcement in 2018 that they would be adding Men’s Volleyball.

More than a year later, they’re set to unveil their team in a scrimmage.

While men’s volleyball is not a full conference sport, there are three GPAC schools (Briar Cliff, Dordt, and Morningside) that currently offer it. At the present time, the team will compete as a NAIA championship level sport.

Head Coach Riley Salmon says while the program is new to the University and maybe even North Dakota, it’s been around for sometime.

Coach Salmon isn’t new to the sport either.

Salmon says there’s been a lot of buzz about bringing the sport to Jamestown. He says there are only some slight difference compared to women’s volleyball.

As Salmon and the University of Jamestown continue to build the program from the ground up, he says their work extends further than just the campus.

He says his goal as coach is to spread the sport and even bring it into the schools in the area.

The public will get a chance to see the men’s volleyball team in action on December 17th when they conduct a black and orange scrimmage. The scrimmage will take place at the Harold Newman Arena and is free and open to the public.
