OAKES, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Oakes (2-1) started a two game stretch versus top 10 teams Tuesday night and suffered a 76-53 loss at home against the Kindred Vikings (3-0).

Pressure filled defense and great shooting proved to be too much for Oakes to handle. Kindred hit 8 first half three’s and posted 53 first half points.

Freshman Kacie Burner was lights out from outside the arc. She hit six three pointers and scorched a game high 20 points into the score book. Burner was one of three Vikings in double digit scoring along with Sophomore Abby Duchscherer (16), Sophomore Terryn Johnson (16) and Senior Jordyn Burner (13).

An opportunistic Kindred defense forced Oakes’ offense into a lot of tough situations early on as well.

Oakes did a good job to adjust and improve coming out of halftime. The Oakes found much more of a rhythm and strung together a 20-17 advantage in the 3rd quarter. The good 3rd quarter wasn’t enough for the Tornadoes as they dropped their first game of the year.

Sadie Hansen was the leading scorer with 18 points, Jaida Seyer had 15 and Nicole Schmitz finished with 10. CeCe Hoelscher added four points and a great defensive game with a handful of offensive boards and a couple blocks in her limited playing time.

Next time out for Oakes is Thursday at #8 Richland at 7:00.
