JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown High basketball teams played their first games of the season at Jerry Meyer Arena on Tuesday night and came away victorious with a pair of victories. Both the girls and the boys are now a perfect 2-0 to start the year with a trip to Bismarck to play the Demons set for Friday.

GBB: Blue Jays 65, St. Mary’s 56.

It was a balanced attack for the Jamestown girls in their season win of the season. Kam Selvig lead the way with 16 and there were four other Jays in double-figures. Grace Hegerle finished with 14, Jessa Anderson had 11 and Jessica Walter had 10.

Jamestown was in control most of the game after almost losing a couple of early leads. They lead by eight and nine respectively in the first half and the Saints cut both leads down to one possession contests. That would be as close as the Saints would get. The Jays had the answer each time and took a nine-point margin into the half.

BBB: Blue Jays 111, St. Mary’s 64.

Boden Skunberg poured in 39 points on 12/18 shooting and an incredible 8/10 from behind the arc to lead the Jays to an offensive explosion. The Jays lit up the scoreboard for 67 points in the first half and were never really threatened as they finished the half on a 26-8 run.

Skunberg is now at 1341 points in this career and is four way from tying the school-record set by Don Brugman. Last night, he passed Justin Cross for second all-time.

Girls game on Friday night starts at 6pm and the boys will follow. You can listen to the doubleheader on ESPN Jamestown.
