WAHPETON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Wahpeton used a 17-5 run to end the first half to open up a 32-17 lead, then held off a second half rally by Valley City for a 62-50 win Friday night in Eastern Dakota Conference boys basketball.

The Huskies started the game on a 15-5 run only to see that lead get trimmed when the Hi-Liners scored the next seven points to get within 15-12. But the Huskies would open the lead back up with that 17-5 run to end the first half.

Munezero Desire scored 12 of his game high 19 points in the first half. Blake Matejek added 15 points and nine rebounds. And Tyler Tollefson chipped in 13 points.

The Hi-Liners outscored the Huskies in the second half 33-30 but could not overcome the early deficit.  Jarred Eggermont led Valley City with 18 point, 12 coming after halftime, and eight rebounds. Peyton Zaun scored 11.

Valley City is now 2-9 overall and 1-9 in the EDC. Wahpeton improves to 4-6 overall and in the conference.
