KILLDEER, N.D. (Prairie Public) – A veterinarian from Killdeer has become the first Democrat to enter the race for North Dakota Governor

Shelley Lenz calls herself an “independent voice” – who will work with people of both parties.

Lenz says the people of western North Dakota have been left out of its share of the state’s prosperity, even though it’s being driven by the West’s energy.

She says she would like to see more state resources put into such things are pre-K through 12 education and other programs.

Lenz says as a veterinarian, she is an advocate for animal agriculture. And she says she believes in all forms of energy, including renewable.

Lenz previously served on the Killdeer School Board.

Lens will seek the Democratic nomination at the party convention, scheduled for Minot in March.
