JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – For 41 years, the Runnin’ O’ The Green has converged onto Jamestown around the St. Patrick’s Day Holiday.

The staple event returns to the Buffalo City March 21st for its 42nd iteration.

Larry Knoblich, affectionately nicknamed “Knobby”, founded and organized the event more than 40 years ago in what was a slightly smaller version of what it’s become today.

Knoblich says through the years, the Running O’ The Green has transformed into a massive fundraiser for local cancer patients and Elk’s Camp Grassick, a camp for kids through adults with different disabilities.

With event participation well into the thousands each year, Knoblich says they’ve been able to raise a lot of money for both causes. He pointed out how much they were able to donate last year with the money raised.

Knoblich also encouraged participants to pre-register for the event beforehand to help alleviate congestion at the Frontier Fort the day of. He says with a $10 registration fee, there’s no reason someone shouldn’t be able to afford registration.

Pre-registration can be found at Cork & Barrel Liquors in Jamestown. A pre-registration event will be held Friday, March 20th at the Elk’s Club the day before the event.

Knoblich says anyone over 21 can participate in the event. They can either run it competitively, to have fun, or at their own pace.

The event has also reached far beyond Jamestown. Knoblich says donations have come in from different parts of the U.S. to help their cause.

If you’d like more information on the event, you can find their Facebook page here. If you’re interested in purchasing a t-shirt, contact Megan at Wildside Creations at 701-252-5228 before the event.
