GRAND FORKS, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Both LaMoure-Litchville/Marion (LLM) and Central Cass carried double digit winning streaks into the quarterfinals of the Class B State Girls Tournament.

Central Cass extended its winning streak to 14 games. LaMoure’s run came to a screeching hault in an 80-55 loss.

After both teams slogged through a scoring drought to begin the game, Central Cass erupted for 73 points over the final three quarters and 30 points alone in the 3rd quarter.

The first quarter was ugly for both teams on offense but LLM went on a near six minute scoring drought and struggled mightily to a 13 percent shooting percentage in the opening half. It improved a bit into the 2nd quarter but outside of Molly Musland’s 9 points, the rest of the team combined to shoot 1-20, and senior leader Ellie Holen went an uncharacteristic 0-8.

Offensively, LLM began the 2nd half on fire. Kalynn Siedschlag got off the schneid with a couple early 3’s, and the Loboes cut the deficit to seven points.

Any time the game teetered on close Central Cass put the pedal down and distanced themselves from the Loboes. LLM posted a 27 point 3rd quarter only to be outdone by Central Cass’ 30 points.

Led by Decontee Smith, Central Cass constructed a balanced attack. Four players in double digit scoring and six players between seven and 18 points. Smith was the catalyst off the bench going 7-16 from the floor, with 18 points, nine rebounds and four steals. Smith’s assault spearheaded a 35-0 advantage over LLM in points off the bench.

LLM’s leading scorers were Musland and Siedschlag with 16 points each.

Next up is the consolation semifinals for LLM. The Loboes will take on Hettinger-Scranton at 2:45 Friday afternoon. Central Cass advances to the semifinals to take on top seeded Langdon Area/Edmore/Munich at 8:15 Friday evening.
