VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City Hi-Liner wrestling team held their award banquet Tuesday night at the Valley City Eagles Club. Members of the highly successful 2019-2020 team were recognized for a great season on and off the mat.

The first awards of the night were given out to the two Junior High wrestlers. Koltyn Grebel was named Hardest Worker. Dylan Hunt was named Rookie of the Year and Most Improved.

Several season statistical awards were presented to Parker Larson for most wins (33). Koye Grebel for most takedowns (109). Jonathan Redfearn for most escapes (45). Bennett Rogelstad for most reversals (30). Most wins went to Parker Larson (46). Most nearfall points went to Koye Grebel with 248. Parker Larson ended his career with three school records. Most wins (238), most pins (152) and most team points (1,370). Isaiah Schuldheisz was given the Tough As Nails Award.

Other Varsity Awards handed out were:

Hi-Liner Achievement– Koye Grebel, Ethan Miller, Bennett Rogelstad, Austin Rogelstad, Ezra Hanse, Broden Muske, Jonathan Redfearn, Jonah Schuldheisz, Carson McGough, and Parker Larson. The 10 state placers, a new school record.

Senior leadership: Austin Rogelstad and Bennett Rogelstad.

Rookie Of The Year: Koltyn Grebel, Carson McGough, and Emma Mielke.

Hardest Worker: Koye Grebel

Most Improved: Ethan Miller, Tucker Johnson, Alex Rogelstad, Ezra Hanse, Broden Muske, Jonathan Redfearn, Jonah Schuldheisz

Most Valuable Wrestler: Parker Larson

Also recognized were the 15 Academic All-State Wrestlers, another school record. To achieve Academic All-State requires a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher and qualifying for the state individual tournament.

It was also the first time in school history the Hi-Liners won the EDC Dual championship and team title at the EDC Individual tournament. There they had five EDC champs, one runner-up and 243.5 points. The 117 points at the State individual tournament was the second most in school history.

The Hi-Liners ended the season 14-5 and fifth at the dual state tournament. They were 9-0 in the EDC. In the last five years, the Hi-Liner wrestling team is 40-5 versus EDC competition.
