FARGO, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – For the second straight year, the Jamestown High boys basketball team is headed to Class A state semifinals following an opening round victory over Devils Lake. The Jays coasted to a 71-54 victory and will get a chance to play Sheyenne for the first time in school history with a trip to the title game on the line.

Jacob Hilgemann was the catalyst early as he scored 21 of his team-high 23 in the first half. His running floater at the first half buzzer almost dropped but rattled out, it was about all he did wrong early. Hilgemann also had the test of guarding Devils Lake 6’10” big man Grant Nelson, who is headed to NDSU this fall.

Jamestown built a lead as high as 24 in the second half. “I thought we took the foot off the gas a bit in the second half,” said Jacoby Lloyd. “We’ll need to be better against Sheyenne.”

Carson Lamp added 18. Brooks Carroll finished with 15.

Grant Nelson lead Devils Lake with 27 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks.

They have moved the game time around to spread out the time between games to allow a cleaning of the facility before the next game. Jamestown will play Sheyenne at 8pm, preceded by Davies/Bismarck at 5pm.
