CARRINGTON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The first case of COVID-19 has been discovered in Foster County.

The North Dakota Department of Health (NDDoH) reports that the case was found in a man in his 50’s, but investigation continues weather it was through community contact or traveling.

Lisa Hilbert, Foster County Public Health RN, says the same precautions before the case was discovered are still in place.

Hilbert says if residents have questions, they should go to the CDC, NDDoH, or Foster County Public Health sites and social media for the most up to date information.

Hilbert says the man will now go through an interview process in order to determine where the case came from.

Jodi Huvdness, VP of Patient Care Services for CHI St. Alexius, says they’ve been testing residents locally, but all have come back negative from their tests.

Huvdness says they do have their processes in place to protect patients and staff. She added that they’ll only test those who meet the CDC criteria to be tested for COVID-19.

Residents are encouraged to continue washing their hands, practicing social distancing, and staying home if you’re sick.

For questions related to COVID-19, the public can call the NDDoH health hotline at 1-866-207-2880 daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Individuals who need medical advice should contact their health care provider.
