FARGO, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The 2020 Shrine Bowl is the latest in a long line of event cancellations according to a press release from the North Dakota Shrine Bowl Board.

“Based on the information available at this time, the North Dakota Shrine Bowl Board has come to the difficult decision to cancel this year’s game and the events surrounding the game,” said Shane Heiberg in the press release.

The Shrine Bowl doubles as a high school football all-star game and as a fundraiser for Shriners Hospitals across the nation. Oakes seniors Logan Sell and Hunter Greenmyer were selected to the main roster while senior Gabe Quandt was chosen as an alternate. Oakes Head Coach Greg Dobitz was also selected to the coaching staff for the third time in his career.

Unfortunately the game will not take place, but “the North Dakota Shrine Bowl Board will formulate and execute a plan to still honor the players selected to participate in the 2020 North Dakota Shrine Bowl,” said Heiberg in the press release.

The press release ended with a beacon of hope saying “the tradition will continue in 2021 and beyond.”

Donations can still be given to the Shriners Hospital with the link below.
