VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The city has a new walking trail that was repurposed from an old road known as “The Broken Road.”

City Attorney Carl Martineck said there was a temporary shelter and campsite set back from the road on property owned by Valley City State University. He said it’s not known who set up the shelter and there was no evidence of illegal activity in the area. He said the campsite was cleaned out by members of the Valley City Fire Department, Public Works Crews and the Electrical Department.

Valley City Police Chief Phil Hatcher said lighting was installed for safety and security near the trail.

Mayor Dave Carlrud said the walking trail will be used as a non-motorized recreational trail.
