JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Stutsman County Commission will be looking at opening up county offices later this month.

During the latest meeting, Stutsman County Auditor Nicole Meland stated that when it came to re-opening, there were still some concerns with certain departments.

Meland says extra hand sanitizers, face masks, and shields could be placed and it’s up to how comfortable the county commission felt.

The commission decided to make a decision at their next commission meeting on Tuesday, June 16th.

In other county news, District Court has been in contact with the Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office to discuss moving trials to the Civic Center due to COVID-19.

Stutsman County Sheriff Chad Kaiser says security remains a concern, especially with someone going through jury trial, which will require more staff.

While no official decision has been made yet, Sheriff Kaiser says this would put him over his budget for the year if it moves forward.

Meland added that the Sheriff’s Department wouldn’t be reimbursed for the cost of security. She says it remains “up in the air” at this time.

Commission chairman Mark Klose added that with the current economy, it would be difficult to afford extra security if the request by the courts were to go through.

There was no need for the commission to take action.
