JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A small group of protestors stood on the steps of the Posthouse in Jamestown along 1st Avenue to show solidarity with the current nationwide movement.

The movement was sparked by the death of George Floyd, a Minneapolis man who was killed when Officer Derek Chauvin was caught on video pressing his knee to Floyd’s neck.

Miles Tormey of Jamestown helped organize the local protest, which has been met with both support and opposition.

When asked what her thoughts were on some protests that have escalated into violence nationwide, Tormey had this to say.

Jamie Amara was also part of the group. She says the support they received Wednesday evening was refreshing.

She added that it was important for the public to distinguish the difference between the protests and riots.

As some drove by honking their horns in support, others drove by telling the young group to “go home.” But, they wouldn’t be swayed.

Tormey left off with this final message.
