CASSLETON, N.D. (Newsdakota.com) – Valley City and Casselton opened the Senior Babe Ruth season Wednesday night with a doubleheader in Casselton. Valley City won the first game 3-0. Casselton took the night cap.

Game 1  – Valley City 3, Casselton 0

Alex Thornton and Connor May combined on a two-hitter. And the Royals scored two unearned runs off Haymaker ace Brady Robinson.

Grady Karges had two hits and scored two of the three runs for Valley City. Corey Nelson had an infield hit and Jacob Johnson added a triple for Valley City.

Thornton allowed one hit in five innings. He walked one and struck out four. Connor May pitched the last two innings to get the save. He worked out of a bases loaded jam in the sixth to preserve the shutout.

Robinson was the hard luck loser. The future Mayville State Comet two hits in his four innings of work. He walked two, hit a batter and struck out 11. Valley City scored two unearned runs off Robinson.

Game 2 – Casselton 6, Valley City 0

Kade McKinnon and Logan Prochnow combined on a no-hitter as Casselton took the night cap.

McKinnon went the first three innings and walked two and struck out four. Prochnow went the last two innings and struck out six more with two walks.

Ethan Muchow led the Haymakers with two doubles and two rbi.

Both teams are 1-1 on the season.

Valley City hosts Wahpeton Friday night for a doubleheader beginning at 5:30. You can hear game on on 1490AM/96.3 FM KOVC beginning with a 5:15 pregame.
