VALLEY CITY, N.D. (Newsdakota.com) – Valley City stayed unbeaten in the East Region with two wins over the Fargo Bombers Tuesday night at Charlie Brown Field. The Royals won game one 5-0 and took game two 13-3 in five innings.

GAME 1: Valley City 5, Fargo Bombers 0

Another great pitching performance by Jacob Johnson and Avery Bennefeld continued his hot hitting in the opener. Johnson tossed a complete game two hitter for his second shutout in as many starts. He hit a batter, walked one and struck out 15 over seven innings. Johnson retired the last seven batters he faced, six on strikeouts.

Avery Bennefeld had two triples and drove in three runs. Monday, Bennefeld was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle in the win over Wahpeton. Jacob Johnson and Corey Nelson had two hits each. Mitchel Taylor had three hits and Nelson scored twice.

GAME 2: Valley City 13, Fargo Bombers 3 F/5

Game two was a true team effort as all nine starters had at least one hit. Eight different players scored at least one run and eight different players drove in at least one run. Grady Karges, Avery Bennefeld, Jacob Johnson, Alex Thornton, Tate Sufficool, and Devyn Thornton all had two hits. Mitchel Taylor, Riley Gerhardt and Corey Nelson had one each. Karges drove in three runs and Nelson drove in two.

Easton Hesch got the win. He allowed six hits over five innings. He walked one, hit one and struck out six.

Valley City is 8-2 on the season and 6-0 in the East Region. Next up, the defending American Legion State champs Kindred. The Vikings come to Charlie Brown Field for two games on Monday. Game one can be heard on 1490 AM/96.3 FM KOVC beginning with the pregame at 5:15.
