VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – City-County Health District held a free drive-thru COVID-19 testing event on July 8th at the North Dakota Winter Show Event Center in Valley City.

City County Health District Administrator Theresa Will said the goal was to test 500 people for the virus. She said the turnout exceeded the 500 test kit limit available for this event. She said those who were turned away will have another opportunity to get a free test. She said more details about a future free testing event in Valley City will be released next week.

Will thanked the 70 volunteers and 34 North Dakota National Guard members who helped during this event including Barnes County Emergency Manager Sue Lloyd and members from Sanford Clinic in Valley City.

Will appreciated the extra effort from her staff members, the National Guard and all those volunteers including the Salvation Army who handed out water during the testing event at the North Dakota Winter Show Event Center.

She also wanted to thank  VCSU, Central Valley Health and the North Dakota Department of Health for helping with the arrangements of the event. And a special thanks to the North Dakota Winter Show for allowing us to use their facility.

Those participants who test positive will be notified by phone within 24-72 hours. While those with a negative result will be contacted within 3-5 days.

This free testing event was a collaborative effort between the North Dakota Department of Health, North Dakota National Guard, CHI Mercy Health, and City County Health District staff.
