VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The final four teams are set at the 2020 North Dakota State Class A Sr. Babe Ruth Baseball Tournament in Valley City. West Fargo, Bismarck Caps, Fargo Vets and Valley City remain.

GAME # 9 – Fargo Jets 3, Jamestown Eagles 2

In game one of the day, Fargo got great pitching from Mitch Runcorn and scored two runs in the fifth on the way to a 3-2 win over Jamestown in a loser out game Thursday afternoon.

The Jets would score in the first inning on a single, stolen base and a pair of wild pitches, to take an early 1-0 lead over Jamestown. But the Eagles would tie it at 1 on a rbi fielder’s choice by Tommy Falk in the third.

Fargo would go back up 3-1 with a pair of runs in the fifth. Calvin Clasen would drive in Chase Hansen with a single and Dylan Erholtz would drive in Clasen with a single two batters later.

Jamestown got a run back on back to back singles and an error in the bottom of the fifth. But Mitch Runcorn would shut the door on the Eagles season when he would retire six of the last seven batters he faced. Chris Erickson would lead off the sixth with a double but would only get as far as third.

Runcorn scattered five hits over seven innings.He allowed one earned run with three walks and two strike outs.

Jamestown season ends with a 25-7 record.

GAME #10 – Bismarck Capitals 6, Bismarck Representatives 2

The Caps broke a 2-2 tie with four runs in the top of the seventh inning on the way to defeating the Reps.

Jaden Mitzel’s second hit brought in Shea Huntington who led off the seventh with a triple. That broke the tie. And it started a string of three straight singles. After Jack Trottier’s single brought in Mitzel, Andrew Fisher had a sacrifice fly to score a run and Kade Trottier tripled to bring in Jack to make it 6-2.

Peyton Eagleson would get one out in the seventh, but would need Kade Trottier to come in and get the last two out for the Caps. Eagleson allowed six hits over  6 1/3 innings. He walked two, struck out three and hit one. The Caps improved to 28-9 with win.

GAME #11 – West Fargo Vets 3, Valley City Royals 2

West Fargo scored an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth with two out to slip past Valley City 3-2.

Both teams scored two runs in the first inning. For the third night in a row, Avery Bennefeld led off the game with a hit, then came around to score. But this time he had company.

After Bennefeld led off with a single, Easton Hesch bunted him over to second. Jacob Johnson walked then both moved up a base on a passed ball. Then with two out Mitchel Taylor singled them both in for a 2-0 lead.

But West Fargo would answer back with a two run single by Griffin Staahl to tie the game at 2. It would stay that way until the bottom of the sixth. With one out, Casey Reber would hit a drive to center that went off the glove on center fielder Corey Nelson for an error. After a hit batter, pop out and a walk to load the bases. Kole Menz would walk to score what turned out to be the winning run.

Matt Heupel would set the Royals down in order in the seventh. Heupel allowed just four hits and two earned runs over seven innings. He walked three and struck out 10.
