NEW ROCKFORD, N.D. (Newsdakota.com) The RV Carrington Cardinals volleyball team improved to 4-2 overall as they defeat the Rockets of New Rockford/Sheyenne on Thursday night 3-1 (25-19, 25-21, 18-25, 25-16). The Rockets drop to 2-3 overall.

The Cardinals had to come from behind in both of the first two sets to get the set victories, down at one point in the second set 17-13. In the third set, Seniors Chloe Heinz and Kayahna Hopfauf had six and four kills respectivily to help the Rockets roll to victory in the third set, the Cardinals never led. In the fourth and final set, NRS closed the gap to 15-14, but the Cardinals outscored the Rockets 10-2 to get the set and match win. The Cardinals were led by 6’0″ Junior Middle Blocker Sydnie Grager with nine kills and three stuff blocks, 5’8″ Senior RH Breanna Mittleider added seven kills. The Rockets had 10 kills each from Hopfauf and Heinz.

Next up for RV Carrington Cardinals will be on Saturday to take on the number three rated and defending state Class B Champs Langdon Area/Edmore/Munich in Langdon. KDAK and newsdakota.com will have the coverage of the varsity match starting about 3pm.

Congratulations to the following top 10 runners from the Medina meet – in the JH division: Jaedyn Lura (4th) and Tate Wolsky (9th). In the varsity division: Kenadie Pazdernik (4th), Brynn Smith (9th), and Jacob Rexin (6th).
In the latest Cross Country Coaches poll, the Cardinals girls are rated fifth. Next up for the Carrington Cross Country team will be on Thursday, Sept. 24th in Larimore.
