commission

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Stutsman County Commission held a special meeting Wednesday to address items that “required immediate attention.”

The first item of the meeting was the 2021 budget. Commission Chairman Mark Klose stated that there may be somethings the commission could do to eliminate or reduce the increase in the mill levy.

Commissioner Dave Schwartz says the increase on mills had to do with completing the emergency fund.

Auditor Nicole Meland stated the commission had intentions to put the mills at 3.97 and use COVID funding to take care of the rest to replenish the emergency fund. She informed the commission that they could replenish the funds with reserves, but they would need to address it in the next budget.

Meland said this would reduce expenses, but rather just move money around and leave it up to the commissioners next year.

The commission unanimously approved.

The second item on the special agenda was appointing a hiring committee to fill the vacancy of Auditor/COO when Meland leaves the position on October 2nd.

Klose stated they had a list of those interested in being a part of that committee.

Klose added that the group would start with a job description and see if it needs “tweaking.” They would then form advertising plans, and a plan if other considerations need to be made.

The decision was approved unanimously.
