DEVILSLAKE, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Devils Lake defensive slowed down the Valley City Hi-Liners running attack and had just enough offense themselves for a 6-0 win Friday night at Roller Field in Devils Lake.

Max Fehr, who had rushed for over 500 yards in the first four games, was held to 21 yards on 16 carries for the Hi-Liners. Kael Grebel was sacked five times an as a team,Valley City had just two yards on the ground.

Grebel was 10 for 19 passing for 77 yards with Peyton Zaun his top target with three receptions for 30 yards.

The Hi-Liner defense was very strong as well, but gave up two big plays on the opening drive of the second quarter for the Firebirds that led to the only score of the game.

Devils Lake started a drive at their own ten yard line. On the first play, Caleb Schneider hit Zach Lang with a pass over the middle that turned into a 50 pass and catch. Four plays later, Schneider found Aiden Bryce-Volk in the end zone for a 25 yard scoring strike. The Hi-Liners stopped the two point conversion to make 6-0 Firebirdswith 8:41 to go in the first half. That was it for scoring.

Schneider was 5 for 16 for 112 yards passing. Lang had 55 yards on the ground on 10 carries. Colten Schneider had 45 yards on 16 carries as the Firebirds had 89 yards rushing and 211 total yards to the Hi-Liners 79.

Derek Diegel had two sacks for the Hi-Liners.
