FARGO, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Neither team could really break away from the other in all three sets, but in the end, Valley City found enough to pull off a big three set road win at Fargo Shanley that counted for two points in the standings. The Hi-Liners won 25-23, 25-21, 25-21.

In the first set, there were 13 ties and neither team had more than a three point lead. Every time one team would take a two point lead, the other would come back and tie. But Valley City would score the last two points which would be good enough to win 25-23.

The second set saw Shanley jump out early and take a 4-1 lead, but the Hi-Liners would score seven straight points to take an 8-4 lead. They would keep that lead between 2-5 points the rest of the way and win 25-21.

The third set saw a tie at 1 and then not another tie until Valley City was able to tie it at 14. That was part of an 8-1 run to take a 20-15 lead. The Deacons would get within two, the Valley City would go back up four. In end, the Hi-Liners again had just enough to pul off the 25-21 win and win the match in three sets.

It was only the third time this season that Shanley had been swept, and the first time it was not by West Fargo.

Dylann Diegel had 23 assists for Valley City, and included in those 23 were her 1,000th of her career. Samantha Hatcher led the offense with 10 kills. Jadyn Dieterle and Lexi Leroux had five each. Diegel would add three herself. The defense was led by Jocey Kriewald with 19 digs. Leroux would chip in 18 digs. Peyton Pederson had two blocks Dieterle added 1.5 blocks. Pederson, Diegel each had a service ace.

Mariah Burd totaled 10 kills and 20 digs to pace the Deacons. Lander Friederichs added 11 kills and five digs, while Olilvia Vetter posted a team-high 38 assists and 10 digs. Hannah Hoedl anchored the defense with 31 digs.

Valley City improves to 8-9 in the Eastern Dakota Conference and 9-11 overall. The Deacons had a four match winning streak snapped and fell to 7-5 in the EDC and 9-5 overall.
