VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Earlier this month, the city of Valley City implemented a face mask mandate due to rising numbers of COVID-19 cases in the area.

Mayor Dave Carlsrud said after the Governor bumped up the risk level in the state to “Orange” the city commission decided to support a mask mandate.

On Tuesday, November 17th, the Valley City Commission unanimously approved of a resolution to mirror Governor Burgum’s penalties for violators under his executive order issued last week. The maximum penalty could include a $1,000 fine for violators. But City Attorney Carl Martineck said the city commission along with local law enforcement could adjust the enforcement procedure.

Mayor Dave Carlsrud asked for some clarification.

The mask mandate includes business patrons and their employees. The maximum patron capacity for businesses is 25 percent. More details about the executive order are attached below.
