FARGO, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Following the State Championship match Saturday night, The North Dakota High School Coaches Association announced its season ending awards. Senior Athlete of the Year and Coach Of The Year.

Jamestown’s Grace Hegerle was named the Senior Athlete of The Year in Class A. Hegerle was second on the  team with 243 kills,  27 aces, and 272 digs. This is the second year in a row a Blue Jay was named Class A Senior Athlete. Kameron Selvig shared the award in 2019 with Kenzee Langlie and Madi Langlie of Fargo Davies. Hegerle has not committed to playing volleyball in college as of yet.

Jamie Zastoupil of Bismarck Century was named Coach Of The Year after leading the Patriots to the schools 8th state title and sixth under her direction as head coach.

In Class B, Sadie Hansen of Oakes was name the Senior Athlete Of The Year. That makes it back to back years for Oakes to have the Senior Athlete of the year. Nicole Schmitz received the honor in 2019.

Hansen just completed a successful high school career at Oakes, recording more than 3,000 set assists and 1,000 digs.

Hansen played primarily setter from 8th through 11th grade, moving to setter and outside hitter for her senior year. The Tornadoes volleyball team went 17-3 in her senior season.

She has committed to playing at Valley City State University next season.

Jamie Richter of Linton/Hazelton-Moffit-Braddock was named Coach Of The Year.  She guided the Lions to an undefeated season and their first state title. They avenged a loss in the 2010 state title game with a win over defending state champ Langdon Area/Edmore/Munich on Saturday night. The Lions were 25-0 this season. They lost three sets all season. two to Dickinson Trinity and one to Flasher. Both teams made it to the state tournament this season.

The NDHSCA (Coaches Association) awards are voted on exclusively by the state’s coaches.
