MADISON, S.D.(vcsuvikings.com)  – The Valley City State women’s basketball team closed out play at the Dakota Clash Classic Saturday as they fell to Dakota State, 94-52.

Macey Kvilvang‘s 17 points weren’t enough to battle the Trojans, who had six players score in double figures. Dakota State converted 29 points off of 29 Viking turnovers Saturday.

Valley City State falls to 1-1 this season. Dakota State improves to 6-3 overall.

The Vikings held a 6-5 lead early in the first quarter when the Trojans scored the next 15 straight points. Dakota State continued to build on their lead throughout the first half, holding the 45-25 advantage at halftime.

The Vikings couldn’t come back as they were held to just 11 points in the third quarter and fell to the Trojans 94-52.

Allie Critchley tallied seven points, six rebounds, and three steals for the Vikings. Adriana Torres scored six points and pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds Saturday.

Valley City State shot 29 percent from the field (19-66), 20 percent from the three-point line (2-10), and 70 percent on free throws (12-17). Dakota State shot 54 percent from the field (37-69), 36 percent on three-pointers (9-25), and 50 percent on free throws (11-22). The Trojans also tallied 26 assists, 16 steals, and five blocked shots Saturday.

UP NEXT: Valley City State travels to the Carroll Thanksgiving Classic to play a pair of games next weekend. The Vikings will take on Montana Technological University on Friday, Nov. 27, and then face Carroll College on Saturday, Nov. 28.
