JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Police Department is receiving an increase in package thefts in the community.

With more and more e-commerce purchases and products being delivered, residents are encouraged to take some extra steps when ordering online.

“Deliver to a place of employment or to the UPS store,” Lt. Sid Mann reports. “The small inconvenience of going to get the package at least keeps it safe and ultimately gets to the intended recipient.”

Lt. Mann says while delivery alerts are also good, they have had issues with that.

“In one case we have received, by the time the victim received the delivery alert and went directly to the residence to get the package it was already gone,” Lt. Mann explained. “Security cameras are very reasonable in price with off site storage of the footage so police can try and identify and find the suspects.”

Lt. Mann says while package thefts have increased, you’re still encouraged to report it to police.

“Don’t think you are bothering the police,” Lt. Mann explained. “We work for you and have resources and contacts available to help us solve these crimes.”
