JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Jamestown and Minot squared off in WDA girls basketball Tuesday night at Jerry Meyer Arena in the Jays home opener.

Jamestown started fast with a 9-0 run to start the game but the Majettes battled back and grabbed a 35-29 lead by halftime.

Minot increased the lead to as many as eight in the second half but the Blue Jays fought back and built its lead to as many as eight midway through the second half.

Minot chipped away and regained the lead in the final minute when seventh grader Maggie Fricke knocked down a three ball. After a Jays miss, Fricke nailed a couple free throws to ice the game.

Jamestown was led by Katie Falk. The Sophomore knocked down 17 points in the second half and finished with 21 points.

Sophomore Ella Falk scored 12 and Senior Jordan Finck chipped in with 10.

The Jays played without standout Senior forward Grace Hegerle who is battling a sprained ankle.

Jamestown slips to 1-2 on the season and Minot improves to 3-2.

Its a busy week for the Blue Jays as Bismarck will come to town on Thursday and Saturday Jamestown travels to Bismarck Century.

The #1 ranked Blue Jay Boys team played in Minot Tuesday night versus the #4 ranked Magicians.

Jamestown got off to a good start with an early 15-7 spurt but Minot recovered to take the lead at half 29-25.

The Blue Jays found themselves playing catch up the entire second half and eventually ran out of time and suffered its first loss of the season 54-50.

Next up is a trip to Bismarck to battle the Demons on Thursday.
