VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Wahpeton started the second half on a 19-3 to turn a four point halftime lead into a 20 point lead and Valley City never recovered as the Huskie picked up a 83-65 win over the Hi-Liners on  Senior night.

Valley City jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead thanks to one of the seniors. Alex Thornton hit a three-pointer and a baseline scoop shot and assisted on Peyton Zaun’s bucket to help the Hi-Liners jump out to an early lead. They would expand that lead to nine at 16-7 thanks to an 8-1 run. But Wahpeton would come back and tie the game at 16, one of ten ties in the first half.

Wahpeton’s first lead came at 8:06 of the first half on Des Munezero’s reverse layup to make it 26-24. The Huskies would take the lead for good with 2:19 remaining in the half on Caden Kappes’ three-pointer to make it 39-36.

Valley City would get to within one at 40-39 on Calahan Burchill’s three-pointer with 1:22 to go. But that would be as close as Valley City would get.

The Huskies scored the first ten points of the second half opened up a 20 point lead with a 19-3 run. and never looked back picking up their fourth win in a row.

Tyler Tollefson scored 33 points to lead the Huskies. Munezero had 19 points and eight rebounds. Bridger Hansen had 10 points, five rebounds, six assists and seven steals. Jaxon Berndt added 10 points and Ethan Manock had a game high 13 rebounds for Wahpeton.

Valley City was led by Alex Thornton with 14 points. Jared Eggermont came off the bench to score 12 points and grab a team high eight rebounds.Peyton Zaun had 12 points and three steals. Drew Zaun added six rebound and three assists.

Wahpeton improves to 10-8 in the Eastern Dakota Conference and 11-8 overall. Valley City falls to 5-13 in the EDC and 4-14 overall.

Valley City will host conference leader and top ranked West Fargo Sheyenne next Tuesday. Wahpeton will host Shanley this Friday night.
