JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Time grows near for gardeners to start their 2021 planting and more.

Laurie Podoll is a Master Gardener and helps oversee the local garden club, seed library, and Community Garden. She says the Prairie Rose Garden Club has been in Jamestown since the 1950’s.

The group meets once a month and is an opportunity to learn new things and spend time with fellow gardeners. Podoll says they also oversee the different parkettes in Jamestown.

Podoll was also the founder of the Community Free Seed Library, the first one to be created in the state. The library can be found at the Stutsman County Library.

The seeds can also be found at the Dakota Store on Mainstreet in Jamestown.

Another area Podoll oversees is the Community Gardens located North of the Temple Baptist Church.

She says they normally start selling 12×12 plots in the Community Garden around May 1st. She added that you can purchase as many plots as you’d like.

Podoll encouraged anyone interested in starting a garden who may otherwise not have the necessary tools to reserve a plot or two.

Lastly, Podoll shared information on the local Master Gardeners organization. She says the volunteer program trains individuals in the science and art of gardening, who then pass it on to educate the public on gardening and horticulture.

She pointed out they would also be hosting free seminars throughout the year on different topics with the first one being announced soon.

Those interested in joining a club or getting a plot in the Community Garden are encouraged to contact Laurie Podoll at 701-269-2498.
