JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Stutsman County Commission was introduced to the new Emergency Manager and Assistant Emergency Manager Tuesday.

Andrew Kirking and Riley Schafer have hit the ground running as they transition to their new roles.

The first order of business was declaring a fire emergency for Stutsman County. Kirking informed the commission that hundreds of acres have burned in Stutsman County due to dry conditions and high winds.

The county has a burn ordinance in place year round that bans burning in very high or extreme fire danger or a Red Flag Warning, but Kirking says declaring a fire emergency will help increase public awareness of how bad conditions are right now.

Bergquist added to that.

The commission unanimously approved the fire emergency declaration.
