Ronald Duane Olstad passed away on April 6, 2021 in Valley City, North Dakota.

Ronald Duane Olstad was born on June 18, 1940 to Norman and Lila (Pinke) Olstad in Marion, ND. He graduated from Valley City High School in 1958.  Ron enlisted in the United States Navy after graduation and was honorably discharged in 1961 as a Petty Officer 2nd Class Radioman.  He married Judith Orness in 1964 at Valley City.  They had two sons, Kevin and Mark.

Ron was a Valley City Police Officer and was employed by Burlington Northern Santa Fe until his semi-retirement.  He enjoyed other employment until he fully retired.  Ron and Judy spent time with family and friends playing cards and attending car shows as members of the Bridge City Cruisers.  He loved playing pool with his brother Mel at the Senior Citizens Center.

He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and was involved in weekly Bible studies.   Ron was a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Judy of Valley City; sons Kevin (Trish) Waconia, MN and Mark (Melody) East Grand Forks, MN; grandchildren Addison, Loren, Aidan, Christina (Connor) Grainger, Casey, Cameron, Maren and Maisy.  His brother, Mel (Marilyn) Olstad, Valley City; brothers-in-law, Stan (Sharon) Orness, Devils Lake, ND and Terry (Julie) Orness, Colorado, and sister in law, Barbara Orness, Devils Lake also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Duane.

A memorial service for Ron will be 2 pm Monday, April 12, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Valley City.  Visitation will be from noon until the time of the service at the church.  Burial will follow along with military honors at Memory Gardens, Valley City.
