JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown women’s volleyball team capped off a great conference season on Saturday afternoon with a sweep of #5 Northwestern (25-21, 25-22, 25-21) to win the GPAC postseason title.

The Jimmies got rolling early on Saturday in the first set behind junior Kalli Hegerle and freshman Nichole Schmitz who each had four kills in set one. Rachel Schiele provided a service ace and the Jimmies held the Red Raiders to a .150 hitting percentage to take set one. Hegerle ended the match with 10 kills and six digs with a .233 attack percentage.

Taylor Sabinash rebounded from a tough night on Wednesday against Midland with five kills and just one error to hit .444. The Jimmies were able to spread out their attack all across the court, and junior Anna Holen recorded a double-double with 23 digs and 11 kills. Schmitz also finished near double figures with eight kills.

In the middle for Jamestown, Corina Huff had a huge third set for the Jimmies to rally and take set three from Northwestern. Huff collected seven kills and three blocks, while Jayla Ritter ended the day with five kills of her own and two blocks. Megan Gaffaney and Jackie Meiklejohn combined to dish out 38 assists, and Gaffaney had two kills.

The Jimmies improve to 26-1 on the year and will now await to see who their opponent will be for the opening round of the NAIA National Tournament next Saturday at Harold Newman Arena. Time and opponent are still to be determined.
