JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com/Abby Ingstad) – The Valley City High School Speech team traveled to the 2021 State Class A Speech Tournament on Saturday, April 17^th at Jamestown High School. The 68^th annual State Class A speech tournament saw qualifiers from 17 Class A schools from both regions. Due to COVID-19 restrictions only the top 7 place winners from each region (EDC and WDA) qualified from regionals for the state tournament.

Valley City High School managed to capture their 4^th consecutive state title, with 106 sweepstakes points, ahead of 2^nd place Jamestown with 88 points. 3^rd place Bismarck St. Mary’s had 73 points and 4^th Place Dickinson had 48 points.

Valley City had one individual State Champion, Vismaya Jacob (Grade 11) in Poetry Interpretation. There was 4 runners-up: Olivia Slyter (EPR), Amelia Meester (Storytelling), Madi Klabo (Extemporaneous Speaking), Lillian Kiefert (Dramatic Interpretation). Valley City managed to place 27 of their 36 entries at the state tournament, the most of any team.

Next up for the Hi-Liner Speech Team is the National Speech and Debate Association ND Roughrider District Tournament at the Baymont Inn And Suites in Mandan, ND on Monday, April 19^th.
