Bernadine “Bonnie” Anderson, 78, left her home surrounded by her family while under hospice care and entered the loving arms of Jesus on March 23, 2021.  Visitation will be at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church on Friday, May 14 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a prayer service beginning at 7:00.  A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on May 15, 2021 at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, Valley City, ND.  The service will be live streamed then archived and available to view along with Bonnie’s obituary and online tribute page at www.lerudschuldt.com

Bernadine Rose Winkels was born at Mercy Hospital in Valley City, ND, November 3, 1942 to Michael and Olivia (Fieber) Winkels.  She grew up in Valley City, attended St. Catherine Catholic School, graduating in 1960.

On July 20, 1961, Bonnie was united in marriage with Robert “Bob” Anderson.  They made their home in Valley City where they raised four children.  Bonnie was a stay at home mom, but also cooked for the Elks Club, St. Catherine’s School, and Mercy Hospital.  She spent a few years working at Gentle Beginnings Daycare, where she was “Grandma Bonnie”.  She also worked at Bakkegard and Schell as a receptionist and lastly the Nearly Nu.

The family made many memories camping together at Lake Ashtabula.  Bob and Bonnie spent many hours gardening together.  Bonnie was an Eagles Auxiliary member and belonged to St. Catherine’s Catholic Church.  She enjoyed listening to 60’s music and was especially fond of Elvis Presley and Alan Jackson.  She was a true “sports lady”, watching all sports, but especially loved her MN Twins and Vikings.  Bonnie loved her sibling Christmas outings and various weekends with her children at the casino.  She loved to WIN big!  Spending time with her grandchildren and watching her great grandkids growing up brought her many smiles and filled her heart with love.

Bonnie has a large extended family and many friends that will miss her.  She is survived by her children, Jeff, Gary (Janeen), Tim  “Crusher” (Barb), and Pam (James) Lunn; grandchildren, Dustin and Brianna Anderson, Zach and Tiffany Rhode, Ashely and Brady Anderson, Jordan (Mercidez) and Dylan Lunn, Anthony (Tatum Diegel) Hehr, Nick (Ashley) Ekern; great grandchildren, Madison, Mariah and MaKayla Anderson, Kennedy and Axell Lunn, baby Lunn on the way. Taylor and Xavier Hehr, Kyler, Maci and Graham Ekern, and Scotty Rhode; siblings, Stan (Jan) Winkels, Chuck (Caren) Winkels, her twin, Bernie Winkels, Ted (Deb) Winkels, Shelly (George) Piatz, Carrie (Bob) Maresh, and Tom (Mavis) Winkels; brother-in-law, Rick Anderson; sister-in-law, Judy Anderson; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob; sister, Annette Olauson; parents-in-law, Fritz and Berniece Anderson; sisters-in-law, Esther Winkels and Leila Hirschkorn; and brothers-in-law, Melvin Olauson and Gordon Anderson; and nieces and nephews.

The Lerud Mathias Funeral Home is assisting Bonnie’s family with arrangements.
