JAMESTOWN, N.D. (newsDakota.com) – A local Boy Scout has accomplished his goal of collecting clothing donations for the North Dakota State Hospital and has taken steps towards completing his Eagle Scout project.

Logan-Ross Motter chose to do a clothing drive for NDSH clients. His initial planning had him considering several projects, including a Food Drive and Pet Adoption Drive, but ultimately believed this fit his interests most and could be of the most benefit to the community and the clients that we serve.

“His project plan was to collect clothing donations from the community, launder all donations and deliver them to NDSH,” Elsie Motter, Logan’s mom stated.

He had collection boxes at 7 area businesses, including Two Rivers Activity Center, Triumph, Glow Tanning, Lifestyle Appliances, Knights of Columbus, Quality Title and Two Rivers Printing and 4 collection boxes at NDSH that he checked weekly. He also received individual donations from Alpha Opportunities, Dauer’s Trophy, Trinity Lutheran Church and a group that made lap quilts and pillowcases. The University of Jamestown donated the use of their industrial laundry machines.

“He also received monetary donations which were used to purchase additional donations,” Motter added.

As a final step for his Eagle Project, Logan-Ross was on NDSH campus on Saturday, May 1st and Wednesday, May 6th delivering donations to NDSH Volunteers. Both days included 2 very full vehicles. His project ran from April 26-May 1st and he collected 3,778 items, a number that far surpassed his expectations. He and the volunteers he had working with him completed 290.5 hours towards this project.

The Eagle Scout rank is a rank that only 8% of BSA scouts achieve. Earning the Eagle Scout rank includes a project that is led by the scout that represents their ability to plan, lead and complete a project.

The average Eagle project is 130 hours of work. Once the project is complete, the scout submits a project workbook and can then apply to for the Eagle Scout rank. The application process includes a Board of Review, which is an interview of the scout by an Eagle Review Board.

“Logan is hoping to have the opportunity to complete a Board of Review before he leaves for Camp Wilderness in June, where he will spend 8 weeks as camp staff,” his mom added. “Logan-Ross is very appreciative to have been given the opportunity to have completed his project for the NDSH. Thank you to all who have supported him!”
