Foster County COVID Vaccination Rates as of May 17th, 2021

CARRINGTON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – As vaccinations efforts continue in Foster County, the focus has moved towards reaching herd immunity and younger population.

According to Foster County Public Health Administrator Lisa Hilbert, the goal of vaccinations is to get 70% of the total population vaccinated to reach herd immunity. Hilbert added that with the younger population able to receive the vaccination, the county is getting closer to that goal.

Hilbert says at this time, the 60 to 80 year old age group has reached that 70% vaccination threshold, but other age groups are lacking behind.

With the vaccine available for ages 12 to 18, Hilbert says getting the younger ages vaccinated is vital for the much more active group.

She added that the younger age group, schools, and community have been doing a great job physically distancing, wearing masks, and staying healthy during the pandemic.

Hilbert says Foster County Health will be providing on-site vaccinations at the Carrington High School Wednesday to administer the Pfizer COVID vaccine to 7th-12th graders interested in getting vaccinated.

Midkota High School will also have the opportunity prior to summer release. She says they asked younger students why they want to get vaccinated.
