DEVIL’S LAKE, ND (NewsDakota.com) – Everything went right for the Valley City softball team in their 11-2 semifinal win over West Fargo Sheyenne.

High winds didn’t deter the Hi-Liner offense as they were able to get 12 hits including a three-run home run from shortstop Erika Anderson in the sixth inning. Centerfielder Jada Nelson went 3-3 with three bunt-singles and came across home plate all three times with four steals. Hailey Schaefer went 2-3 with two RBI and is now 5-6 in the postseason thus far. First baseman Dylann Diegel continued to dominate at the plate with another multi-hit game going 2-4 and Emma Mielke had an RBI triple and a two-RBI double en route to her 2-4 day.

Schaefer had another stellar performance on the rubber as well for the Hi-Liners as she was able to strike out eight Mustang batters and walked none while giving up just two earned runs and six hits. This was a significant improvement from her last outing against Sheyenne when she gave up nine earned runs and 13 hits in their 12-11 win on May 11th.

The win means Valley City has clinched a spot in the state tournament on June 3rd-5th in Mandan. It will depend on if they win or lose tomorrow in the championship game against West Fargo if they get the one or two-seed in the East region. The first pitch will be on 1490 AM 96.3 FM KOVC at 3 p.m. and the pregame show will start at 2:50 p.m.

West Fargo and Valley City have met four times this season in which the Packers have dominated the series 4-0 including two shutout wins.
