BISMARCK, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The Oakes high school girls’ track & field team finished first place at the 2021 NDHSAA Class B Girls Track and Field State Meet in Bismarck this past weekend. The boys also performed well and placed a respectable 9th place out of the 40+ teams that competed.

Lanie Awender earned the honor of Senior Athlete of the Year in the Class B Girls. She finished second in the 100m dash (12.37 seconds), second in the 200m dash (25.69 seconds) and third in the 400m dash (59.75 seconds).

Emma Muggli placed 3rd in the 300m hurdles with a time of 46.76 seconds. She also placed 5th in the 100m hurdles (16.43 seconds). On the boys’ side, Garret Meehl placed second in the 100m dash with a time of 11.22 seconds, and he also placed second in the 200m dash with a time of 22.35 seconds.

The throwers continued their dominance as Sadie Hansen took first place in the shot put with a throw of 39-feet-6-inches. Laikyn Roney was right there with her, finishing second with a throw of 38-feet-11.5-inches. Hansen also finished third in the discus with a throw of 118-feet-7-inches. For the boys, Ashton Biesterfeld finished second in the discus with a throw of 171-feet-8-inches and third in the javelin with 166-feet-8-inches.

Abby Cox placed fifth in the triple jump with 34-feet-9.75-inches and 9th in the long jump with a jump of 15-feet-10.25-inches. Cox was also on the 4x400m relay team with Emma Muggli, Kassidy Jackson and Lanie Awender which finished third with a time of 4:14.05.
