VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City Public Schools Board unanimously appointed Phil Hatcher to the school board on Monday, July 26, 2021 during the school district’s annual meeting.

Hatcher will fill the position on the board that was created when school board member Jamie Sylling resigned her position in June. Hatcher will serve on the board in the position for the 2021-2022 school year and then the position will be filled for the three-year term during the June 2022 school board election.

Following the appointment, Board President Ryan Mathias and other board members welcomed Hatcher to the school board and acknowledged his service to the community and school district. Hatcher stated, “Since I was a kid growing up in Valley City, I have always been a promoter of the good things that are happening in our town. When we look around, there is a strong sense of community pride and it is truly an honor to serve the individuals of Valley City”.

Hatcher also expressed his excitement for continuing to “give” back to the community and representing the community to the best of his abilities. He shared appreciation to former board member Jamie Sylling and the big shoes he will need to fill serving in this position.

Hatcher is currently employed by the City of Valley City as the Chief of Police for the past five years. He and his wife Laura have four children.
