LaFaye Krenz, 96, Valley City, ND formerly Litchville, ND passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 12, 2021 at Bethany on University, Fargo, ND.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2:00pm, Friday, September 17th at Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Marion, ND.

LaFaye Virginia Krenz was born on July 31, 1925 in Marion, ND. She was raised on a farm south of Marion and attended elementary through high school in Marion. Upon graduation, she attended Jamestown College as World War II was ongoing and earned a teaching certificate. Faye taught 3rd grade in Oakes, ND for several years.

LaFaye married Vernon Krenz of rural Litchville on November 15, 1947 and retired from teaching to become a full time farm wife and mother. Faye had a love of music and a gift of being able to share it. She played piano and organ at St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Marion and later at First Lutheran Church in Litchville until the arthritis in her hands made it too difficult for her to continue. Faye was also active in the ladies aid and other church activities. She was a strong independent woman continuing to live on the farm for 21 years after she lost her husband Vernon in 1998. It was only after she lost her oldest son Les in 2019, shortly before she turned 94, that she knew it was time to move off the farm. Faye lived at The Legacy Place in Valley City for just over two years until her health declined and she needed more care.

LaFaye is survived by her three children: daughter, Jan Krenz of Fargo, son James (Candace) Krenz of Hazen, ND and son Michael Krenz of Seattle, WA; grandchildren Andrew Krenz of Kildeer, ND, Krystal Krenz of Bismarck, ND, Josh (Vicki) Krenz of West Fargo, ND, Cassie (Rod) Kramer of LaMoure, ND and six great grandchildren.

LaFaye was preceded in death by her parents, Acy and Esther (Matzke) Trapp; her husband Vernon; her sister Elaine Youngman and her son Les Krenz.

A special thanks to The Legacy Place for caring for Faye so well, Dr. Traverse and the nursing and chaplain service at CHI Mercy Hospital in Valley City. Also thanks to the kind, caring, and compassionate staff at Bethany on University in Fargo and to Hospice of the Red River Valley for all they did for Faye in her final days.

Memorials preferred to First Lutheran Church of Litchville, St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery or Hospice of the Red River Valley.
