JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – As the first facility to provide 3D mammography for breast cancer screenings in the state, the Jamestown Regional Medical Center (JRMC) has continued to lead the charge to reduce and eliminate barriers to healthcare.

JRMC Radiology Manager Jason Schaffer says as the fall approaches, women’s health comes more into focus with October designated as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

No Excuses was created in partnership with Central Valley Health and has since provided more than 100 women with 3D mammograms and preventative services they otherwise wouldn’t have.

At any given time, more than 1,300 Stutsman County women are not up to date on their screenings.

Schaffer says the primary goal is to reduce or eliminate any excuses that someone may have to get the care they need.

Other excuses may include transportation or appointment times during the regular business day. To help, the JRMC will be holding two days of extended service for both mammograms and screenings. On October 5th and November 16th, services will be offered from Noon to 6 PM for those needing care.

No Excuses is only possible because of the community’s generosity, said JRMC Foundation Director Lisa Jackson. In 14 years, the hundreds of Running of the Pink participants have raised more than $165,000 for this cause. R.M. Stoudt Inc. organizes the walk/run each year.

Schaffer says there’s a certain point where women should begin exploring regular mammograms.

Exploring screenings also varies.

Marketing Manager Katie Ryan-Anderson took sometime to thank their teams who help make No Excuses possible.

She says utilization rate for mammography remains high in Stutsman County due to the continued community support.
