ABERDEEN, S.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The 17th ranked VCSU Vikings traveled to a wet Aberdeen on Saturday night, and even had their game delayed but that wouldn’t slow down the Vikings as they win 44-10 over the Presentation Saints.

First quarter, Valley City kicked the ball off to start the game, and their defense came up big and held the Saints offense scoreless. For the Vikings first offensive possession on the night, they went 47 yards in 7 plays. Quarterback Jalen Pfeifer capped off the drive with a 14-yard rushing touchdown and Nico Magana tacked on the PAT to give the Vikings the early 7-0 lead. On the next series on offense for the Saints the Vikings defense wanted to add to the lead. Martin Jones picked off Senior Quarterback Hunter Giffrow and returned it 75-yards for the touchdown extending the VCSU lead to 14-0. However, the VCSU offense was not done in the quarter. This time Jalen Pfeifer found a wide open Justice Bice across the middle of the field and hit him with a pass and Bice went 53-yards for the score and the 21-0 Vikings lead.

The defense for the Vikings once again wanted to add points of their own. On the first play of the second quarter, Marshaun Jones strip sacked Quarterback Mike McPeek and Ashton Raquino scooped up the loose ball and ran it back for the touchdown, Vikings had a 28-0 lead at that point. VCSU would be gifted two points a little while later in the quarter when Punter Luiz Ferreira, who was punting from the back of his own end zone, would step out of bounds while receiving the snap giving the Vikings a 30-0 lead.  However, Ferreira would make up for his mistake with just 1 second remaining in the first half he would drill a 42-yard field goal to make it 30-3 VCSU going into halftime.

Early in the third quarter Pfeifer would throw another touchdown pass, this time it was a 27-yard TD pass to Ben Dumond to give the Vikings a 37-3 lead. Quarterback Jalen Pfeifer became the new all-time passing leader in VCSU history on Saturday, surpassing the record of 8,675 career yards held by Kurtis Walls. Pfeifer broke the record in the third quarter and finished the game with 8,809 career passing yards. (Per VCSU Football) The Saints would not go away quietly, as running back Innocent Okoh put together a great drive running the ball and would be on the receiving end of an 8-yard TD pass from McPeek to make it a 37-10 ball game.

Early in the fourth quarter, Pfiefer would put the game away as he threw his third TD pass on the night, this time to TE Jorun Hamre from 29-yards out to give VCSU a 44-10 lead.

Vikings improve to 6-0 on the season with the 44-10 victory Saturday night in Aberdeen. Next up for VCSU is another road game, this time in Madison, S.D to take on Dakota State for a 4pm kickoff, and the game can be heard on KOVC.
