VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A candidates’ forum for the Valley City Public School Board was held Wednesday, May 11th in the Hi Liner Activity Center sponsored by the Valley City Education Association.

Five candidates vying for two open seats in the June 14th election include Katie Woehl, James “Tony” Puckett, Phil Hatcher, Damian Johnston, and Darin Anderson.

Katie Woehl talked about one of her concerns; the teacher shortage.

James “Tony” Puckett said teacher pay and the teaching environment need to be addressed.

Damian Johnston said parents need to have a seat at the table when it comes to school curriculum.

Phil Hatcher talked about the future direction he would like to see the school district pursue.

Darin Anderson said the public needs to decide what option is going to be best for the school district, whether its building a new school or repairing their existing facilities.

The Valley City Public school board election will be held in the Central Office Conference Room from 9am to 7pm on June 14th.
