JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – A seven-run fifth inning led the Blue Jay baseball team to a 10-0 win over Bismarck St. Mary’s in five innings on Tuesday night at Jack Brown Stadium.

Jamestown grabbed the lead in the bottom of the second after Carson Orr doubled with one out. After a flyout, Reagan Sortland singled into left field to score Orr and put the Blue Jays ahead 1-0.

In the third, Jamestown scored two runs after Jackson Walters doubled home Michael Mahoney with two outs. Walters then scored on a Payton Hochhalter single to make it 3-0.

Hochhalter kept Saints batters at bay all day, facing adversity in the fourth when the bases were loaded with one out. The junior got out of the jam with a strikeout looking, followed by a pop-out to keep St. Mary’s off the board. Hochhalter worked the complete game, striking out five and allowing three hits.

The big fifth inning started and ended with singles from Connor Hoyt, who finished 3-for-4 with an RBI. Hochhalter tacked on two more RBIs with a single, and Sortland also added to his total by driving in two with a single.

Sortland and Hocchalter were both 2-for-3 at the plate with three runs driven in. Preston Gall and Orr also drove in runs during the seven-run fifth. Orr was 2-for-3 and scored twice. Gall was 1-for-3 with a double, and the Blue Jays as a team totaled 12 hits in game one.

In game two, Jamestown pushed across six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to sweep the doubleheader, winning 12-4. Carson Orr went all seven innings, allowing five hits and just two earned runs. Every Blue Jay in the lineup recorded a hit in game two.

Jamestown moves to 9-7 overall and in the West Region this year. The Blue Jays travel to West Fargo Sheyenne for a Thursday doubleheader before coming back home to take on Minot and Fargo Davies this weekend.
